About this route
Gion at 6:30am has no tourists. Just delivery bicycles and old ladies sweeping. This route takes you through the real geiko districts before the bus groups arrive at 9am.
You’ll watch tofu being delivered by bicycle to restaurants that have ordered the same way for sixty years. You'll stop for breakfast at a counter that opened in 1947. The streets are quiet, gray, and real. This is Gion without the performance.

About Gion / Higashiyama

The temple approaches are stone-paved and quiet. The restaurants that serve locals open early and close before the evening crowds arrive.
